SKINCEUTICALS D.O.S.E product

Many of you know I struggle with melasma. But what is melasma? It’s severe discoloration of the skin caused by sun and heat. Also, it will never completely go away. It sounds like a really fun thing to deal with, right? Yeah…

I started treating my discoloration skin problem a few years ago with laser treatments and a new skincare routine. However, I’m still trying products and treatments to combat this stubborn issue. That’s why I’m very excited to try the new SkinCeuticals Custom D.O.S.E serum.

I’ve been a fan of SkinCeuticals for several years now and think they have incredible products. However, I’ve always hated putting 10 different things on my face to treat all the different skin issues. Plus, I usually always forget one step out of my skincare routine each day. Or I’m just too tired and lazy at the end of the day. So, when I heard about their Custom D.O.S.E serum I was very intrigued. It is ONE serum personalized to treat multiple skincare issues in one bottle. Amen.

Less is more in my book, even though I know that’s never the case with skincare. But, using my D.O.S.E serum instead of 3 separate products is a step in the right direction. Last month I went into North Dallas Dermatology for my SkinCeuticals Custom D.O.S.E appointment. You begin by doing a quick questionnaire led by your skincare professional. While being guided through the questionnaire I told the technician about my daily skincare routine and explained my discoloration struggles. After the questionnaire is complete, it formulates the best serum type for your skin. My serum was a blend of 3 ingredients to address my skincare concerns, along with the base. The base with each ingredient then gets sent to the D.O.S.E machine to make the customized serum. Watching the machine make my serum was so cool!

You can see my customized serum formula above, but the main ingredient that the SkinCeuticals technician recommended for my serum was tranexamic acid. This will work to help my discoloration because it helps fade stubborn dark brown spots. Yes, please!

Once my serum was created, we discussed how often I should use it, when to use it in my skincare routine, and how it would work with the other products I’m using. Since I am on a brightening product already for my discoloration I couldn’t use both products. So, the SkinCeuticals technician told me to hold off on the current brightener I am using and replace it with the Custom D.O.S.E serum. Because I’d been using that product for almost a year it wasn’t a big deal to switch products, and I didn’t feel like my current brightener was working anymore, so why not try something new?

One of the other ingredients in my serum helps maintain moisture levels which is great because I don’t always use a moisturizer at night.

Like I mentioned earlier… I’m not a fan of using a million products so by the time I’m done applying the products I need to manage my acne and discoloration the last thing I want to do is apply a heavy moisturizer. I have super oily skin, so I just feel like a giant grease ball most of the time. But, with the D.O.S.E serum, problem solved!

I’ve been using my D.O.S.E serum now for about a month and feel like I’m seeing some good results. In addition to using the D.O.S.E serum, I got a SkinCeuticals chemical peel which helps products absorb better. It gets that dead layer of skin off so you can get the most out of your products. I had to do the lowest level chemical peel because it’s still summer and I’ll be in the sun. However, it’s a great thing to do on a monthly basis and it helped brighten my skin.

Along with the chemical peel, I tried a microneedling treatment with a brightening serum that was infused into my skin. I spaced these treatments out about three weeks apart and I really think that helped the serum to work even better!

Unfortunately, this little bottle isn’t going to cure my melasma problems, but it will 100% be staying in my skincare routine! I use the serum morning and night applying about 3-4 drops onto my skin. It’s usually the second product I use in my skincare routine which goes like this: wash > toner > D.O.S.E serum > retinol (night only) > moisturizer/sunscreen.

Now that I’ve figured out my summer skincare routine for discoloration, I’m hoping my skin will look amazing in the next couple of months. It’s a LOT of work to fight melasma in the summer due to sun and heat, but I think I have the best product lineup to help keep it at bay!
