When I first heard about using charcoal on my face you should have seen my face, haha! My reaction was a little taken aback, and skeptical. Let me just tell you that is NOT the case these days… You may have seen my Insta stories using this BeautyCounter charcoal mask a few times because I’m so obsessed. But, some of you might be wondering why charcoal is so great for your skin? Basically, think of it as a dirt magnet.  The activated charcoal ingredients suck out all the dirt from your pores. When you see all the little dots on your face after you use this mask you’ll be shocked at how much crap gets stuck in our pores each day!!

BeautyCounter Charcoal Cleansing Bar: This little charcoal soap bar has some power. It can be used daily because even though it’s a deep cleansing and detoxifying product, it maintains moisture with hydrating organic coconut oil. I’ve got to order another one of these ASAP because I use it on my entire body in the shower too! I break out on my chest and back really bad so I need to use this bar all over my body.

BEST CHARCOAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant: This charcoal cleanser is gentle enough to use everyday. I personally like using it at night before bed because it is an exfoliant so I feel like it gets my makeup off the best. It has an anti-pollution technology that helps absorb environmental toxins from deep within the pores. I’m usually running around and outside taking photos a lot so just thinking about how much crap gets into my pores makes me cringe.

BeautyCounter Charcoal Mask: This is my favorite charcoal product hands down. I used to use the GlamGlow Charcoal Mask, which I do still love, but the price is much better on this one is much better. Believe me, I’m not a BeautyCounter rep at all, but when I learned that they prohibit 1,500 questionable or harmful ingredients from their products I was sold.

I love this mask so much because you can look in the mirror and watch the charcoal pull out the junk in your pores. You slather on a dark charcoal layer, and within minutes the mask starts to dry a light gray color. Then as the mask is drying you start seeing these little black dots appear. It’s kinda disgusting, but amazing at the same time!

Colleen Rothschild Clarifying Detox Mask: So why two masks? Because even though this mask still removes trapped dirt it has pure micronized silver which helps keep bacteria at bay. Also, it has Vitamin C and Willowherb extract which brightens and soothes inflamed skin. After a hard workout, my face is always inflamed so that’s why I like using this mask on the nights after an intense workout.

Both of these masks can be used 2-3 times a week! However, I would suggest using them together a maximum of 4 times per week if you have sensitive skin like me. That’s another reason I love these charcoal products. I get breakouts a lot so these products have really helped keep my breakouts at bay. What charcoal products do you all use?! I’m always up for trying new things!!

  1. As someone who battles hormonal acne, I’ve given the charcoal trend a go. I’ve been using the Origins Charcoal mask, and though it makes my skin feel super smooth, clean, and smaller pores, it’s actually caused more breakouts. I think it is getting my pores to “purge” but it’s discouraging to be breaking out even more!

Did you notice any purging with these products??

    1. I didn’t have any issues with these products! I have sensitive skin and am prone to breakouts too, but haven’t had any issues with these products. The bar soap is very mild, and I use it in the shower for my entire body. It’s actually helped my chest breakouts a lot!

  2. Good to know. Also, just wanted to say I really enjoy your blog. I live in Houston and have family up in the Dallas area, so I love supporting a Texas girl!
